Online Art Gallery

Julie Prichard has created an online art gallery ,featuring her student`s art, that they created, from her online art classes she Chris Cozen offer. I have taken a couple of these classes and learned a lot and enjoyed them very much, and my work will be in the gallery too, or maybe by the time you read this it is there. Thank you Julie for all the work you did to put this together. I hope you all enjoy seeing the artwork and will sign up for their classes. One of my favorite collages I made is from their Complex Collage class.

Relief Illuminated

I was asked to create another piece of art for the new wing of the hospital. This is a collaborative effort. 20 artists were asked to paint on a 12" x 12" wood box type substrate . We could paint on either side. They are being used to decorate a long hallway in the hospital.
I didn`t really have an idea of what I wanted to create, so I waited and let it tell me. I started with the word RELIEF . I wanted to paint RELIEF, as this is usually what people come to the hospital for. My intention for this painting to extend. I painted various layers of marks and colors for the background. And eventually got the idea of a face. I cleared a place in the painting for a face. I painted a face and hair and wasn`t pleased with the hair. Waited awhile longer, (a few days) , and painted on the hair again, somehow it evolved into the hair floating up, as if she was underwater. I got the thought of Isis the Egyptian Queen,as if maybe her hair was a crown. The Light radiating from her, her aura giving RELIEF . I just worked on doing and not judging. Allowing and enjoying the process. This is what became of that action.

Art as Medicine

The local hospital in my city has recently built a new section to the hospital. They called for local art from local artists. What a boost for us! They saw the images of my work on this blog and picked the angel. I painted that a few years ago, and told them I would paint something along that line. I was happy how it came out and they liked it too. They opened the hospital wing to the public and my painting is in the waiting area of the radiology department. I asked my intuition what I should name it and Hope Illuminated came to mind. So that`s what it`s named. Turns out the Tower at this addition is called The Tower of Hope. This place would look very sterile if there wasn`t art in it. The art is breaks up the muted colors. I am very thankful for the call for local artist to have an opportunity to make some money and get exposure, and add good energy to the hospital.

Unstuck after 6 months!!!

I finally was able to finish a painting after 6 months of trying. I painted but nothing seemed to be going well. I went back to Chaos and Calm -a online class I had joined earlier this year, all the videos were available,I went through the videos very quickly looking for the beautiful colorful paintings they showed in the introduction to the class. The paintings in the background.
I didn`t find the video that taught how to make those exact painting. After throwing a tantrum (privately in my own resistant head) , I saw someone had written the question where are the videos that show how to make those paintings and the answer was , they taught the techniques of how they did them, but not using those paintings. Crap!
It finally dawned on me that the one I really wanted to try was Julie`s drip technique she shows in class 12, and continues in the next 2 videos. Her paintings looked so different from the paintings in the original video, I didn`t even realize that is what it was.
I played the videos over and over until I got somewhat like Chris`s beautiful painting, my version of it. I need to work at the blending some more, but I`m happy with the results. Now after going through the frustration and resistance , I realize the value of having to figure it out myself. Good teachers don`t just give you the answers , they stir up the pot that is our minds, dreg up some of the sediment at the bottom and get things moving and flowing.
I do recommend the Chris Cozen/Julie Prichard online classes. Even though I wish Julie would let us hear what Chris says when she`s painting.I love watching Chris paint. Thank you Chris & Julie for all the work you put in the classes.

Abstract Dragonfly Collage

I thought I`d share my latest collage/painting. 20" x 20". Collaged pics and papers and an antique frame on the surface. Inspired by dragonflies at the lake this summer. Love this color of blue too. Thanks for looking.

Layers and Layers and Forgiveness Is.....12" x 12"

This is my latest painting. I was playing with the idea of depth. Trying to make the dots look deep inside the painting. I did some dots and then I would add some gel, dots, gel, dots, gel. I thought one day ,I`m going to be making dots forever on that painting if I don`t think of something. While meditating in the pool one afternoon I saw the answer. The black lines to cut into the design. That was the answer. The saying reads... Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heal that crushed it." Radical way of thinking of forgiveness. This piece is sold.
