Online Art Gallery

Julie Prichard has created an online art gallery ,featuring her student`s art, that they created, from her online art classes she Chris Cozen offer. I have taken a couple of these classes and learned a lot and enjoyed them very much, and my work will be in the gallery too, or maybe by the time you read this it is there. Thank you Julie for all the work you did to put this together. I hope you all enjoy seeing the artwork and will sign up for their classes. One of my favorite collages I made is from their Complex Collage class.

Relief Illuminated

I was asked to create another piece of art for the new wing of the hospital. This is a collaborative effort. 20 artists were asked to paint on a 12" x 12" wood box type substrate . We could paint on either side. They are being used to decorate a long hallway in the hospital.
I didn`t really have an idea of what I wanted to create, so I waited and let it tell me. I started with the word RELIEF . I wanted to paint RELIEF, as this is usually what people come to the hospital for. My intention for this painting to extend. I painted various layers of marks and colors for the background. And eventually got the idea of a face. I cleared a place in the painting for a face. I painted a face and hair and wasn`t pleased with the hair. Waited awhile longer, (a few days) , and painted on the hair again, somehow it evolved into the hair floating up, as if she was underwater. I got the thought of Isis the Egyptian Queen,as if maybe her hair was a crown. The Light radiating from her, her aura giving RELIEF . I just worked on doing and not judging. Allowing and enjoying the process. This is what became of that action.

Art as Medicine

The local hospital in my city has recently built a new section to the hospital. They called for local art from local artists. What a boost for us! They saw the images of my work on this blog and picked the angel. I painted that a few years ago, and told them I would paint something along that line. I was happy how it came out and they liked it too. They opened the hospital wing to the public and my painting is in the waiting area of the radiology department. I asked my intuition what I should name it and Hope Illuminated came to mind. So that`s what it`s named. Turns out the Tower at this addition is called The Tower of Hope. This place would look very sterile if there wasn`t art in it. The art is breaks up the muted colors. I am very thankful for the call for local artist to have an opportunity to make some money and get exposure, and add good energy to the hospital.
